Chelsea White is finally back in Nova Scotia. She was transferred to the IWK in Halifax. She is doing very well and, this weekend, saw her Dad and brothers for the first time in over 2 months. I’m so happy for her and her family- the ordeal is almost over.
Poor Chelsea White. I think of her everyday.
You may remember that a few months ago I made a complimentary website for a young girl, age 6, who needed an operation in California. Her family needed to raise money so that Chelsea’s mother could accompany her on the trip. (original blog post original website)
Chelsea and her mom have been in California since early June. Chelsea has had a number of operations, vomited numerous times daily when awake, suffered high fevers, been in a doctor induced coma (for 5 or 6 days), had so many CT scans I lost count, had a feeding tube, had tubes draining fluids from around her brain for days, had her head shaved, been poked and prodded for almost 8 weeks now… she has not recovered from her operations and procedures as quickly or as well as hoped. It has been a miserable few months for Chelsea. My heart breaks for her and her family.

Chelsea two days ago… the first time I have seen her shaved head. All she has been though and she still manages a smile… sweet little thing.

Yesterday I launched a site for a very talented photographer who is restarting her photography business after taking time off to stay-at-home with her children until they started school. Heidi Jirotka Photography (http://heidijirotka.ca). Her photos are lovely and she is lovely and she just happens to be my sweet baby sister.
The website also has a blog where Heidi hopes to regularly post her beautiful photographs.
I also designed a new logo for her (which I have also used as a favicon). It is an ‘h’ and a ‘j’ combined but if you look abstractly it could be a person (the ‘j’) holding a closed tri-pod.

Months ago, my sister-in-law Hillary Harris, who is also a website designer based in Halifax, asked me if I would like to collaborate on a project with her. The project was for a large property company, called Peppermint Properties, in Halifax. The company owns 18 rental properties, locations concentrated in Halifax.
Hillary was to do the skin and function design and manage the project. I was to do the database design and function, content management system (CMS) design and function, forms and hosting/emails. I was very excited to work on this with Hillary. She is a sweet person, great designer and makes beautiful websites.
I built an easy to use custom administration panel for Peppermint Properties where new properties can be added and units to those properties, text edits, options, google map settings, etc. Peppermint Properties staff is able to edit most fields on the website. The database is streamline and has a efficient design. The user panel has a feature that submits automatic advertisements to Kijiji when making a unit in a building available. I also provided a detailed 15-page user-guide.
