What is a URL?
A URL is the address of a website or document on the World Wide Web. URL is an abbreviation for Uniform Resource Locator.
The first part of the address is called a Protocol Identifier. In the case of http://winith.ca, the protocol fetching the pages is HTTP. Another type of protocol identifier is FTP.
The second part of the URL is the Resource Name of the IP address or domain where the resource is stored. In the case of http://winith.ca the resource name is ‘winith.ca.’
